Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the reading comprehension ability of the sixth- semester students at the University of Pasir Pengaraian in comprehending English articles. This research employed a descriptive quantitative research design. The sample consisted of 16 sixth-semester students. The instrument used to collect the data was a reading comprehension test consisting of 10 multiple-choice questions covering four indicators: Main Idea, Detailed Information, Vocabulary in Context, and Making Inference. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean score, and achievement categories. The findings showed that the students' reading comprehension ability was categorized as Good, with a mean score of 75. One student (6.25%) achieved the Excellent category, fourteen students (87.50%) were categorized as Good, and one student (6.25%) was categorized as Fair. Among the four indicators, Vocabulary in Context achieved the highest percentage (90.63%), followed by Main Idea (81.25%). Meanwhile, Detailed Information (72.92%) and Making Inference (64.58%) were categorized as Good. It was concluded that the students generally demonstrated good reading comprehension; however, they still needed improvement in making inferences from English texts
