Abstract

This Research was classroom action research (CAR), this research was conducted to overcome the existing problem on the field as well as to described and also explained whether the KWL strategy could improve the students’ reading comprehension in Narrative Text. In this research, researcher was used the KWL strategy as the strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension of Narratve text, this research was conducted at SMP Negeri 8 Rambah, there were 23 students in the eight grade. This research was conducted in two cycles, every cycle consisted of four meetings with the sequenced activity : plan, action, obvservation and reflection. Researcher used four instruments in collecting data, namely: test, observation checklist, field notes and interview. Then, analyzed by qualitatively and quantitatively. The finding of this research indicated that the implementation of KWL strategy was successful, there was an improvement in students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. The finding showed an improvement in students’ reading comprehension of narrative text from the average of reading test narrative text in basic test 42%, cycle 1 was 50,8% and 72,51% average of reading test narrative text in cycle 2. The improvement from basic test to cycle 1 was 8,8% and from cycle 1 and cycle 2 was 21,71%. Based on the finding mentioned before, the researcher suggests that English teacher could implement KWL strategy in teaching reading narrative text in order to motivate students in learning English reading in narrative text.
