Abstract
The purpose of the research is to find out the type of imperative sentence and the function of imperative sentence in drama perfomance “Uncle Vanya” at English Department. The kinds of this research is descriptive qualitative only focused describing the data. The data are taken from the dialogue spoken by the characters in the drama perfomance Uncle Vanya. The researcher obtained data through written speech in the text of drama, then supported by a vidio of drama perfomance Uncle Vanya by sixth semester students at English study program. The result of this research show that the types imperative with a subject (five sentences), positive imperative (fifteen sentences), negative imperative (three sentences). Imperative without a subject (two sentences) and imperative with let (five sentences). In term of the function of imperative sentences they are : imperative as a command, imperative as a prohibition, imperative as a please, imperative as a instruction, imperative as a request, imperative as a advice and imperative as a offer. The most used function in the drama perfomance “Uncle Vanya” is imperative as a request
