Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine what strategies students use in reading comprehension. Reading comprehension helps students understand and extract meaning from written text. Reading comprehension is a foundational skill essential for academic success, professional development, and personal growth. Researchers are interested in analyzing students' abilities in reading comprehension strategies at the Al-Khoir Padang Lawas Islamic boarding school. This research is qualitative research. The sample for this research consisted of 22 students. In collecting data, researchers used questionnaires and interviews to analyze students' abilities. Based on research, it was found that skimming and scanning are the most widely used reading comprehension techniques. Researchers found that 50% of students answered agree, For the first statement, there were no students who strongly disagreed. Where the majority of students prefer skimming and scanning as the easiest and most frequently used reading techniques to understand, this is proven by the total score on the skimming indicator which is the highest compared to the other three indicators.
