Abstract

This study aims to analyze the differences in students’ purchase intentions between Bu Salma’s Canteen and Bu Iya’s Canteen at SMK Negeri 2 Tambusai Utara. The study employed a quantitative approach using a comparative research design. The population consisted of 411 students, with a sample of 100 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through observation and questionnaires using a Likert scale. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics, including the Independent Samples t-Test, with the assistance of SPSS software. The results indicate a significant difference in students’ purchase intentions between Bu Salma’s Canteen and Bu Iya’s Canteen, with a significance value of 0.004 (< 0.05). The average purchase intention score for Bu Salma’s Canteen (82.40) was higher than that of Bu Iya’s Canteen (78.10). These findings suggest that students have different preferences when selecting a place to purchase food and beverages within the school environment. The differences in purchase intention are associated with students’ perceptions of product quality, price, service quality, cleanliness, and canteen comfort. The study concludes that there is a significant difference in students’ purchase intentions between the two canteens, with Bu Salma’s Canteen demonstrating a higher level of purchase intention. The findings are expected to provide valuable insights for school administrators and canteen managers in improving product quality and service performance to better meet students’ needs and preferences.
