Abstract

The data obtained was taken from the class of twelve. The instruments used to collect data were a test and a questionnaire. This research aims to determine how students' ability to translate in Recount Texts Students of Senior High School Negeri One Kepenuhan. The data analysis technique that researchers use employs some steps. They analyzed the students' test translation in recount text and Analyzing the students 'questionnaire. Research findings show that the student's results of students' ability translation in tests, overall, the translation of manual text can be said that the meaning of the source text is communicated quite precisely in the translation. For the style of cohesion, overall the translation has an inconsistent style, with some odd element placements. For situational appropriateness Overall, cultural references, discourse, and register are mostly appropriate to the target language, but there are some choices that are less appropriate to the target language, text type, and audience. For grammar and mechanics overall, the translation shows fairly weak grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Minor errors often appear. Overall, the ability to identify and solve translation problems is good for translation skills. There were major and/or many minor errors in translation. The use of reference materials is lacking. The result of the questionnaire is for the first statement until the tenth statement average students choose to disagree. In the learning process, students' translations are classified as not good because there are still errors in translating them. In learning English, the ability to translate recount text is an important skill that students need to continue to hone, both in academic and non-academic contexts.
