Abstract

In supporting the teaching and learning process of English as a foreign language, media helps teachers in the teaching and learning process. This study aimed to determine students' perceptions of the use of YouTube in learning English in class XI MIA 1 SMAN 2 Rambah Hilir. This research is descriptive qualitative research. This research uses questionnaire instruments and interviews conducted in class XI MIA 1 with 34 students consisting of 11 males and 23 females. The results of this study indicate that students have a positive perception of 3 indicators, namely acceptance, understanding, and evaluation. Based on the questionnaire result, the researcher got the 71.69% percentage shows that many students are interested and positively respond to statements regarding their interest and acceptance of the use of YouTube. In understanding, a total percentage of 70.10% of students agree that the use of YouTube helps them understand English learning materials well and are motivated to learn English, and using YouTube videos in learning improves th eir English language skills. Then, in evaluation, a total percentage of 70.68% of students agreed. The use of YouTube media is more effective and efficient and avoids boredom.
