Abstract

Verbal communication plays an important role in English drama performance because actors need to deliver messages clearly, naturally, and effectively. Pronunciation, intonation, and diction are important aspects that influence how spoken messages are understood and interpreted by the audience. This study aims to analyze pronunciation, intonation, and diction as verbal communication indicators in English drama performance among sixth-semester students of the English Department. This research used a descriptive qualitative design. The researcher collected data through questionnaires and observations of students’ English drama performances. The data were analyzed by identifying and describing the students’ use of pronunciation, intonation, and diction during the performance. The findings indicate that pronunciation, intonation, and diction contribute to the clarity and effectiveness of students’ verbal communication in English drama performance. Pronunciation helps students produce words clearly, intonation helps express meaning and emotion, while diction helps students choose and use appropriate words in delivering their dialogue. The study concludes that pronunciation, intonation, and diction are important verbal communication indicators that support students in delivering dialogue effectively and making English drama performances more communicative and understandable.
