Abstract

Assessing public speaking abilities has become crucial, especially in events like Puteri Indonesia 2022, where effective communication plays a vital role. This research focuses on analyzing the public speaking speeches of the top 10 finalists Puteri Indonesia 2022 through the PIPA Model. The study used broadcast live video from the Jakarta Convention of Puteri Indonesia's speech from 2022 that was available on YouTube. This study using a descriptive qualitative method, data was collected from analyzing the video documentation, describing the data and take the conclusion from it. The analysis involved assessing various components such as organization, supporting material, content, articulation, non-verbal communication, and visual aids based on the PIPA Model. The population of the research is 44 Puteri Indonesia Contestants in 2022. The sample of the research is 10 contestants who made it to the top final 10 and using English in their speech. The conclusions of this research were obtained from 3 raters through PIPA Model. Researcher take a concusion that from the 10 of the contestants, there are only one who got advanced level in their Public Speaking skill through PIPA model which is Contestant 8. The researcher also came to the conclusion that the Puteri Indonesia’s 2022 speech was advanced in nonverbal communication and articulation. Hence, the organization, supporting materials and content got Proficient level. However, because there were no visual aids available during the grand finals speech competition, they were only got a minimal level for visual aids. This study also find sheds light on the public speaking skills exhibited by Puteri Indonesia 2022 contestants, contributing to the assessment of their communication abilities.
