Abstract
This study discusses the illocutionary speech acts in the performance of the drama "Uncle Vanya". This study aims to determine the types of illocutionary speech acts in dramas that are shown in the sixth semester of the English language education study program at Pasir Pengaraian University. The methodology in this study, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative design about the meaning of utterances containing the types of illocutionary speech acts in the drama "Uncle Vanya". This thesis analyzes the illocutionary speech acts contained in the drama performance based on Austin's Theory. The population of this research is the sixth semester students of the English education study program at Pasir Pengarain University, in the 2021/2022 academic year, there are 22 students. The data of this study were obtained using the listening and note-taking technique. This study analyzed and categorized the types of illocutionary speech acts in the drama "Uncle Vanya". Which consists of three types of illocutionary speech acts, namely assertive, directive, declarative, commissive, and expressive. After collecting and analyzing the data, the researcher found that the form of illocutionary speech acts according to Austin's theory contained in the drama performance consisting of 5 illocutionary speech acts. Therefore, the researcher found 31 illocutionary speech acts in the drama "Uncle Vanya" consisting of assertive act 7 utterances, directive act 8 utterances, declarative act 3 utterances, commissive act 3 utterances , and expressive act 10 utterances.
