Abstract

This research investigates the effect infrastructure and geographic aspect on poverty. Our samples are cities that the main earning are from natural resources in Riau Province. Our data are panel and are taken from PODES which have period between 2013-2014. The amount of villages that become our samples are 1272 villages, spread in 6 cities in Riau Province. The study located in Riau Province, those are Kabupaten Siak, Kabupaten Kampar, Kabuparen Rokan Hulu, Kabupaten Bengkalis, Kabupaten Rokan Hilir and Kota Dumai. We used a quantitative method with secondary data. Our finding found that Riau Province has rich natural resource, such as oil, coal, gold, and many more. Mining is main earning in Riau Province. Infrastructure aspect, such as electricity significantly affect poverty. While geographical aspect has significant effect on poverty. However, Riau Province has a problem in distributing electricity. The rise of electricity price every year become main obstacle. Thus, this condition makes the majority of Riau Province territory remains dark in the night .
